Voice work for poets
I regularly do voice work with poets in association with the Ledbury Poetry Festival (UK), helping them to connect to their audience with ease and clarity.
Get in touch if you are interested, whether it is for a workshop or for 1:1 sessions.
Some of the principles of the work with poets
- Developing a physical and metaphorical taste for words, their shapes and sonorities, their connections to each other's, ultimately, increasing curiosity and pleasure in speaking.
- Developing a personal connection to texts: how do I make these words mine?
- Working with imagery, using all senses.
- Developing a sense of phrasing by observing structures, stanzas, punctuations, enjambments etc.
- Using direct communication by addressing the audience without the fourth wall
- Listening to others speaking poems, discovering different realms, voices, cultures
- No character is involved. No transformation needed. The actor-human speaks.
